NAIDOC events coming to Gympie

In Sunshine Coast by PHN Communications

As NAIDOC week draws near there are a range of celebrations planned for people in the Gympie community. Under the theme – Because of Her, We Can! – NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from Sunday 8 July and continue through to Sunday 15 July.

The theme celebrates the active and significant roles that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played at the community, local, state and national levels.

Some of the upcoming events include:

NAIDOC Community Flag Raising

When:  Monday 9th July, 8.30am – 9.30am
Where:  Nelson Reserve Sound Stage, Jaycee Way, GYMPIE
What:  Community comes together to raise the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian Flags in harmony (morning tea provided free of charge)
No RSVP required, just come along to share the day

NAIDOC Family Fun Day Celebration

When:  Friday 20th July, 9.30am – 2.30pm
Where:  Downstairs, the Pavilion Conference & Reception Centre, Gympie Showgrounds, 77 Exhibition Road, Southside, GYMPIE
What:  Various Entertainers including comedian Sean Choolburra, Jamie Dunn & his sidekick Agro, Traditional Dancing/Story Telling, Song Groups, Yarnin’ Circle, Traditional Games, Jumping Castles & Petting Zoo, Gundoo/Kids Corner, Art/Crafts, Food/Drinks & Loads of Stalls & the United Synergies Coffee CartStalls cost $30 for the first table (this includes 2 x chairs) and $30 for subsequent tables and 2 chairs, as the event is indoor you only need to bring your promotional materials, pull-up banners etc., for your service

NAIDOC Dinner Dance

When:  Friday 20th July, Doors Open 6pm & Dinner to be served at around 7.30pm with proceedings winding up around 11.30pm that night
Where:  Upstairs, the Pavilion Conference & Reception Centre, Gympie Showgrounds, 77 Exhibition Road, Southside, GYMPIE
What:  Entertainment by local band Midlife Krisis & an array of guest singers, an adults only comedy performance by comedian Sean Choolburra, Jamie Dunn & Agro will be there as well & included in the ticket price is a wonderful 2 Course Dinner
