Rockhampton prepares for NAIDOC week celebrations

In Central Queensland by PHN Communications

Rockhampton is preparing for the annual 2018 NAIDOC Week celebrations to be held in July. The events celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Australians from all walks of life are invited to celebrate NAIDOC. The week presents a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Events in Rockhampton kick off on Sunday, 1 July and go through to Saturday 14 July. You can download a full schedule of events here.

As part of the celebrations the Australian Red Cross are also hosting the 2018 Rockhampton NAIDOC Awards. The awards recognise the outstanding contributions that our local Indigenous Australians make to improve the lives of Indigenous people in their communities and beyond, or to promote Indigenous issues in the wider community, or the excellence they’ve shown in their chosen field. The nominations for the awards close Friday, 15 June 2018. Download the nomination form here.
